I had lost my Doberman Service Dog, Cody, and was devastated. I was so distraught that I ended up in the hospital over night with chest pains. The next day the doctor came to me and said physically I was fine but my heart was broken. Cody and I had an extremely close bond. We were always there for each other.

My mama wanted to get me another dog, not to replace Cody, but to help fill that void in my heart. She asked me what I wanted and I said an Irish Wolf Hound. I had this thing about big dogs. So we looked around for one and what few we found were very expensive. Mama started looking on Craig's List and found a Presa Canario. They are large dogs like Mastifs. So, off we go to check out this young puppy. We got to the house, turned into the driveway and stepped out of the van. There was feces everywhere, even on the porch. You could barely walk without getting it on you. I got the woman to the door and she told me to wait in the yard. I found a place where I could kneel. A minute later this little brindle dog comes toward me. She had the saddest look on her face as if she was saying “Please take me away from this place.” It broke my heart and I knew that she was coming with us. She looked like she could die at any time. You could see all of her ribs. Her face and head had so many bite marks on it and her ears were (and still are) all gimped up where they were chewed and not treated. She stunk so badly. Well, we took her home and gave her a bath with Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. The filth and hundreds of fleas poured off of her. No wonder she was scratching every few seconds. When we got her out of the tub and towel dried her her whole demeanor changed. She didn't stink anymore and the fleas were gone! We took her into the vet for shots and a checkup. The vet said that she was a pitmix and had Failure to Thrive syndrome. She also had 3 kinds of worms that had to be treated. He guessed that she was around 8 months old, not the 2 months that we were told by the seller.

She is 13 years old now and is the best dog. She has helped me when I get panic attacks. Her ears are still gimped up, but she is beautiful to me.
